Fishing Walleyes in Ontario

Where to Find Walleye in Ontario

Ontario has over 7,000 fishable rivers and lakes, and it boasts some of the largest populations of walleye fish. So, the choice may seem a little overwhelming. To help you reach a decision, listed below are some of the best places to fish for walleye in Ontario.

Lady Evelyn Lake

Lady Evelyn Lake is one of the very best lakes for walleye fish in Ontario. Lady Evelyn is the lake to visit if you want to catch substantial walleye, as the fish in this lake often reach over 30 inches in length and can weigh up to 18 pounds. Therefore, anglers who want to catch some serious trophy walleye would do well to visit Lady Evelyn Lake.

The lake is also recommended for its beautiful scenery and peaceful location. However, there is no road access to Lady Evelyn Lake. Therefore, visitors need to either sail in or take a floatplane. For the sheer size of walleye that Lady Evelyn Lake produces, she is definitely worth making the journey for.

Eagle Lake

Situated in the northwest of Ontario, Eagle Lake has numerous feeder streams, which makes it an excellent breeding ground for walleye fish. It is a beautiful natural lake with crystal clear waters and surrounded by natural beauty. It is also one of the largest lakes in Ontario at 65,000 acres, which results in good supplies and healthy sizes of fish, too.

Some anglers have been able to hook between 20 and 50 walleye in just one day?s fishing at Eagle Lake. It is not just quantity that Eagle Lake offers either, as trophy walleye are to be found here. It is common for 8 to 12 pound walleyes to be caught and some are as large as 14 pounds.

Big Pine Lake

Big Pine Lake is a real gem, which does not undergo the strain of over fishing. Located in the Wawa and Chapleau area, it has numerous islands and bays, which allow walleye and other fish a wonderful environment in which to procreate and thrive.

The walleye here are not as large as Lady Evelyn Lake or Eagle Lake. However, trophy fish can be found of up to 10 pounds. These fish are typically harder to catch as the remain in the safety of deep waters. But, some lucky anglers have caught them. On the other hand, the walleye of Big Pine Lake can be caught in large numbers.

Separation Lake

Separation Lake is to be found in the center of the English River System near Kenora in Ontario. It offers wonderfully clear waters and panoramic views. Moreover, it comes highly recommended by many Ontario anglers. Late summer and early fall are prime times to visit Separation Lake, because the walleye have an opportunity to grow and thrive during the summer. Subsequently, walleye as large as 30 inches can be caught.

If you are after smaller fish in larger quantities, Separation Lake can provide all year long. The last two seasons have been great for the walleye of Separation Lake, so numbers are substantial.

Walleye Fishing Secrets Student Shares an Awesome Catch

"Andrew,

Here's a 25 inch walleye caught at Lake of the Woods, Ontario. The picture is a great memento for me.

I caught it drifting. We caught it amongst some smaller ones that ended up on the dinner table.

Your advice was helpful in making my trip successful. Thank you!"
