Navigate to Net Some Nice Walleye

Take Over a Lake with GPS Tactics

GPS fish finders may be either a side pointing or downward pointing. Devices which are side finding point to the sides of the boat instead of towards the bottom, and this means that only fish appear, instead of bottom features showing up on the monitor as well. These units also have a narrower beam of sonar, around nine degrees, so it is easier to locate the fish which do appear on the fish finder.

Side finding GPS units have the ability to rotate three hundred and sixty degrees, so you can scan the entire area around your boat. It is important that you move the transducer of the device slowly, because if you go to fast you will miss fish.

Walleye fishing with the aid of a GPS fish finder is an art all by itself. The device allows you to get away from the crowds and still get great results. When the monitor locates fish you can either fish it then or mark the area and come back later. With Walleye, however, it is advisable to fish it when you locate the fish, otherwise they may leave the area.

There are a wide range of GPS fish finders available, in all different types and models. Some will attach to your wrist, others can be attached to your rod and reel, and yet others need to be mounted on your boat.

Unlike the first fish finders, GPS fish finders have the ability to use the Global Positioning Systems to help anglers navigate through waters which are unknown to them. Just like the systems on vehicles, these devices will allow you to pinpoint your coordinates exactly, as well as help you unearth untold Walleye fishing spots that are just waiting for you to exploit.

A great way to use GPS fishfinders to take over a lake is to use them in a methodical, scientific manner.

What do I mean by this?

A lot of anglers will use their fishfinders to just sort of look around and see what's going on on a particular day.

Instead, I encourage you when fishing for walleye to begin with the end in mind.

Think to yourself, "how am I going to TAKE OVER this lake?" metaphorically speaking.

A great way to do this is to spend an entire day on the water without any fishing gear at all. Go out with your boat and your GPS and mark any areas you may think could be productive. Plan an attack where you have at least 20 different possible walleye holes marked off.

Next time out you can fish 3 or 4 of these spots, and when you do, keep a log of the activity that was present on that day, noting time of day, weather conditions, wind, your presentation and fishing method and so forth.

Doing this over the course of several fishing outings will give you a ton of confidence on your journey to totally dominating on the water because you will have scientific evidence of *exactly* what has worked for you in the past.

More importantly than that, you will know what to avoid next time out and this will allow you to hone in on what works best.

It's true that walleyes can be tricky to fish. But approached from a scientific standpoint, you can quickly find yourself climbing even higher up the ladder, to becoming a Master Angler.

Walleye Fishing Secrets Student Shares an Awesome Catch

"Andrew,

Here's a 25 inch walleye caught at Lake of the Woods, Ontario. The picture is a great memento for me.

I caught it drifting. We caught it amongst some smaller ones that ended up on the dinner table.

Your advice was helpful in making my trip successful. Thank you!"
