Andrew Martinsen's Walleye Fishing Update

Manitoba Walleye Spots for the Whole Family

Fantastic Fishing Amongst Gorgeous Scenery

The Canadian province of Manitoba contains over 110,000 lakes and is known to offer some of the best walleye fishing in the country. Walleye can and are caught in the waters of Manitoba all year round. During winter ice fishing the fish are at their most sluggish and of course it can be dangerous so this is the only time that it is not in your best interests to head out.

In the spring and summer months the walleye are incredibly aggressive and you will find yourself catching and releasing most of them from the moment you start to the minute you leave to go home. At this time of year the technique isn't nearly as important as you will find the fish will hit almost anything on some lakes,

Ice fishing is extremely popular in Manitoba and in recent years trophy walleye have been caught in massive numbers and sizes up to weighing in at up to and occasionally over 10 lbs. Some Ice fishing hot spots include Lake Winnipeg and the Red River. The southern basin of Lake Winnipeg becomes full of walleye before the annual spawn run begins when the fish will start their run to the Red River. The walleye will be staying close to baitfish, which will be staying in the clearer water of the edges. Use rattle baits with aggressive jigging motions to get the walleyes' attention. If you are finding the fish to be inactive try tipping the bait with a minnow head to encourage them to bite. If you are not having any success in one spot, get up and drill a new hole around 30 yards away.

Lake Winnipeg is not only one of the walleye angler's dream fishing spots but it is also a great holiday destination where the whole family can enjoy time on the lake or some of the area's natural attractions. The surrounding scenery is beautiful with inland islands, limestone cliffs and white sand beaches.

How you decide where on the lake to stay really depends on a number of factors. Think about your budget, whether or not you are bringing your own boat, how many days you want to spend on the lake and whether or not you need a guide. There are loads of different options for accommodation on and around the Lake and with a little research you will find something that fits your requirements.
